Re: Thoughts of 2010

I wasn't saying that having it in Indy was a bad idea. I agree with all the positives BigMo mentioned. I was simply pointing out a possible reason why attendance might be down. For some percentage of the fans, going back to the same place may not have the same appeal as going to a new venue. The har...

Re: Pre-Season: Week 1 Results

Woo Hoo! I won this week! :P 1. 38.235 Marianne With a whopping percentage too, I might add  Unfortunately, I will not be playing this season. I will be out of the country for about 5 weeks during the regular season and I don't think I'll be able to manage keeping up with everything during th...

Re: Thoughts of 2010

* I realize that the economy had a big impact on attendance at DCI Finals this week. But in all honesty, in my 31 years of attending DCI Finals there have been other years that the economy was "not good". I was a little shocked by the empty seats in the stadium at quarter finals and finals, even wi...

Re: BigMo's Rankings through July 23, 2010, plus stats

Average score for July 2010 - 81.143 Average score for July 2009 - 79.632 That's a delta of 1.511. Considering that the July 2010 data is 6 days later than July 2009, wouldn't we expect the scores to creep up by that much in six days? Seems about equivalent as you can get to me. <begin sarcasm aler...

Re: Minnesota

I agree with Old School, big regional events should have a rain date scheduled in. It might mean one less show (e.g., if the original date doesn't get rained out, they could have scheduled a different venue immediately after). But they should make an effort to keep the bigger regional shows in place...

Re: I'm Sick of Talking...

I saw Crown, Cadets, Phantom, Bluecoats, Glassmen along with Teal Sound and Spirit early on at Charleston, WV. Of these, I really liked Crown, Bluecoats, Phantom, and Glassmen (best from them in several years, IMO). Cadets are also amazing, but I was too distracted by the "Little Jimmy" character ru...

Re: BD vs Crown--Subjectivity

I know this sounds bad, but the recent judging makes me want to not spend the money to attend live shows this summer. Ahh, so the scores DO matter! If not, why would you be turned off by the judging enough to not attend a live show? I can't say I'm thrilled with the judging of late, but I go to sho...

That's because you are clued in! The average fan is very distracted in my opinion and is missing a helluva drill in detail.

Re: Deciding if...

How many folks are just SICK about what's happening in the Gulf of Mexico? How many of us 50-types are not exactly thrilled by the state of our 401K plans (or other investment of your choice), assuming even you are one of the lucky ones that have kept a decent paying job? Oh, there are plenty of thi...

Re: Big Mo's Rankings through June 30, 2010

Does anyone know why Glassmen slid down? They had scored as high as ~72 and suddenly 2 or 3 shows in a row in the high 60's??? And please don't say it was relative to their competition because that is crap unless it's for a major show with all corps competing where the judges are forced to slot ever...

Re: Deciding if...

And a lot of reviews I've been reading on DCP point out a number of corps over-utilizing the synths (Cavies, Glassmen, Blue Devils and Mandarins in particular). Of these, I have only seen Glassmen. I can honestly say that the synths were hardly noticeable and I thought enhanced their show somewhat....

Re: Madison (June 26)

Briefly: - Cadets show's pretty good and I'm glad the dialogue and set pieces are gone, but I NEED to be able to concentrate on the corps without Little frickin' Jimmy running around like he's had his 16th cup of coffee for the day. I'm missing a lot when he zips around the field and distracts me. ...

Re: Home ?????

I kind of liken the situation of corps member composition to college football. It used to be most of the players were from at least the home state of the university. Not so today. Starting lineups for most schools have kids from all over the country. (Texas may be the one exception as their are just...

Re: Louisville, KY - Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Interesting that Bluecoats separated that much from PR overnight (see Charleston, WV scores). And slotting Cavies (with 4 shows under their belts now) between them is also interesting. Also I now have a relative read between Glassmen and Madison. Should be a fun summer!!
