Forum Error Messages?

Post by Bandmaster » Thu Nov 03, 2005 1:30 pm

We are experiencing a few gliches in the forum software today. They just did an upgrade on the server and we are trying to iron out a few wrinkles. The emailing functions of the forum are giving error messages. Please be patient for a little while. Thanks.

phppbb critical error

Post by SCVBaritone » Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:00 am

Dave, I googled the error message and it appears to be caused by a spider or adware of some kind but I'm not sure. It now leaves a cookie behind on my cookie file. I will engage all my spyware protection to protect my computer. Anyway good luck.

If that's what Google showed you I would have to say that Google is on drugs! Plain and simple... the web hosting company was doing an upgrade to their MySQL database server (our phpBB forum uses a MySQL database) and they incountered a "glitch" during the process. This caused intermittent database connection failures. When the forum software can't connect to the database server it is programmed to display a message saying "phppbb critical error". So there were NO SPIDERS or ADWARE mucking up the works here, at least not this time! The forum was NOT compromised by a hacker.

Thanks Dave, that' sort of the same response I got when I asked our IS leader at work what I had read on Google. He said, a php is a code generator used to help set up SQL data bases or something like that and is not some spider or adware...anyway it's working great now. Thanks again.

PHP is a scripting language, similar to VB Script, JavaScript and Cold Fusion. A code generator is a software tool that will write source code after you give input some paramters. Scripting languages can be used to CREATE code generators.
