Since our conception in 1910, the Kidsgrove Scouts from Staffordshire, England, have been guided by an ethos based around entertainment and education with the dual objectives of stretching the performers and providing a crowd pleasing show. We meet these objectives each year and at the same time remain highly competitive: the corps placed 2nd at last week’s DCUK championships in Mansfield, England, and in doing so won the high colour guard and high drums captions.

Our 2006 show will be announced shortly before the commencement of the winter programme in November. We are currently taking applications for membership for the 2006 corps. The musical and visual programme of the corps are led by a team of staff with many years of drum corps experience – both marching and teaching – both in the UK and in the US. Members are assured one of the finest drum corps educational experiences anywhere. Unlike DCI, membership of a British drum corps is open to anyone up to the age of 25 years. So, if you have recently aged out of DCI or simply fancy experiencing something different, read on!

WHY YOU MIGHT CONSIDER SPENDING A SUMMER IN ENGLAND AS A MEMBER OF KIDSGROVE SCOUTS?

 We would not expect you to join us until June 2006, when your college commitments etc. in the US are taken care of.
 Age limit = 25 years.
 Membership fees are very cheap: approximately $400 including travel to UK shows.
 We rehearse mainly at weekends, and several weekends during the summer are designated as “free time”. Hence, there are lots of opportunities for travel and sight-seeing.
 We travel to Europe (Holland, Belgium, France) each year to perform in Drum Corps Europe shows at a cost of only approximately $70 per member.
 We will find you cheap accommodation for your stay, most likely with another corps member.
 We don’t use amplification!
 And finally….the British weather is not that bad – and there are no mosquitoes!
