I look at it how secularism has wrapped itself around the Christian culture.

Maybe in it's strictest sense. However, how many Christians are more worried about the sales at Wal-Mart & Sears, the fashion show at church & what they give & get than the birth of a savior...............Bill

So true Bill, too many people and Christians alike have forgotten/forsaken the true meaning of Christmas. They took the Christ out of Christmas and started calling it Winter Holidays.

I'm like you, I do not like to see people go to church just to publically display their new garments. I have heard of drive-in churches where you simply wear whatever you have on, park and listen to the preacher/minster.
When Jesus was doing his preachings, do you think people would run home and put on their best? No, they came as they were, from the fields or fishing...they were more concerned about receiving the word than what they looked like!

I have thought for a long time that Christmas had gotten out of hand as far as gift giving. Too many people go over board purchasing very expensive items as well as numerous gifts.
When my parents were growing up in the depression era, they told me they got a brown bag with an apple, orange, some nuts and IF they were lucky MAYBE a wooden toy. Times were hard then as they are getting now.
For Christmas this year, my husband and I decided we were not going to go crazy giving extravagant gifts. We kept it simple.
