Does Tiger Woods owe us an explanation?

Post by cwbjr67 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:31 pm

I was watching First Take debates with Skip Bayless, Herm Edwards, and Jalen Rose this morning concerning Tiger Woods. Jason Rose opined the "Charles Barkley" argument that Tiger is not a role model. Since Tiger is not a public official that benefits directly from our tax coffers, any offering of an interview or explanation for his actions on and off the golf course is unwarranted and unnecessary.

I find that argument to be fallacious at best. Tiger's influence is incalculable from a PGA and sponsor standpoint. Fans have indirectly financed a billion dollar persona that has been found to be merely illusory. Workers in third world countries count their survival on the sales generated from his endorsements and media image. I'm not saying that Woods is evil incarnate; he's just a boneheaded, ill-tempered horndog. He, at least, owes his sponsors an explanation.

He probably feels there is no explanation other than the fact he is addicted to sex. He realizes that and also realizes what it is doing to his family, thus the absence from the TV interviews and the public in general. He needs time without the public distraction to get his life back on task. Kudos for him for leaving a passion (golf) to make things right with his wife and children.
I wish him the best and hope that he can pick up the pieces and never look back nor repeat his past transgressions. The road ahead for him is a bumpy one and will not be easy, but if he wants a future with his wife and kids, he will do what is necessary.

If he wanted a life of a playboy, Tiger never should have gotten married (and had the kid) and none of this happens. Look at George Clooney and other affirmed bachelor stars. The media gives them a pass on everything.

Agreed, with all the dirt coming out about his past relationships before he got married, he should have stayed a single man.
Oh well, the media thinks he and his wife will get a divorce. If that happens, he should never marry again.
