The French Horn Returns

Post by FD » Fri Feb 04, 2005 5:45 pm

French Horn players (or other brass performers who have the courage and desire to play Horn) will be as pleased as I to note that there's a place for them to march in drum corps: the San Francisco Renegades.
Recently there have been quite a few active discussions about the classic sound of the French Horn on the field, and I welcome the return of that sound to this activity.
Indeed, the Renegades open their field show with a Horn solo, and Chris Nalls is a marvelous player with tone and presence. The mid-voice section will feature several French Horns. The call has sounded. I wonder what the response will be.

At this point it appears to be:

"Ave Maria" - "Ascension"
a bit of "Niner-Two" as a perc feature
some "Matrix"-meets-Richard Strauss
"Nights in White Satin"
a bit of Chase and a bit of Rush

I would not be surprised if the sequence changed. These guys are a slippery bunch.
