North Coast Rock Update

Post by clevelanddrumcorps » Fri Mar 04, 2005 12:38 pm

It’s been a pretty exciting time for Cleveland, Ohio. The Browns have hired a new GM and coach, the Cavs and LeBron James are setting the NBA on fire, and the Indians have begun spring training with the hopes of returning to the playoffs. In the drum and bugle corps world, however, North Coast Rock has been strangely silent. This is not due to inactivity, however, as the board of directors for North Coast Rock and the Greater Cleveland Marching and Performing Arts Association have been hard at work to return drum corps to the Northeast Ohio area. That work is now paying off and North Coast Rock is pleased to make the following announcements:

1. Website: Thanks to the hard work of Randy Williams of Harper Vance Internet Services, North Coast Rock is officially online! Go to and check out the latest news regarding the growth and success of Cleveland’s first drum and bugle corps in almost 20 years. Create a login at the corps site and enjoy access to our discussion forums with topics regarding North Coast Rock and drum corps in general. Read about and contact the personalities that make North Coast Rock the amazing group it is. Submit your information and let us know that you want to be a part of drum corps in Cleveland!

2. Horns: North Coast Rock has worked out a deal with the Kingston Grenadiers of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, to purchase a group of G bugles. These horns are the first tangible step in equipping the corps with the necessary instrumentation to perform and compete, both locally and in DCA. Special recognition goes out to Cary Reed, NCR Director of Development, and Carl Diefenbach, NCR Director of Operations, for making this happen.

3. Drums: Carl Diefenbach has been busy on this front, as well, by arranging the loan of a set of marching percussion to North Coast Rock by the Zanesville High School marching band. Special thanks go out to Andy Sundman, Zanesville High School band director for his generous offer.

4. Fundraising: North Coast Rock has partnered with the Cleveland Indians to sell concessions at Indians games. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to the corps. With 81 home games, this is a major opportunity for NCR to build the funds needed to operate the corps. A minimum of 12 workers are required to work at each game. If you are interested in helping North Coast Rock at any of the Indians home games, please contact the corps at Training to operate the concessions takes place throughout next week so don’t delay! This training is also good for working concessions at Cleveland Browns stadium so watch for future announcements when the 2005 NFL season gets close. Special recognition goes out to Cary Reed for arranging this wonderful opportunity.

5. Performances: Now that North Coast Rock has instruments, we are next working to line up performances in Cleveland area parades and events. NCR is also planning on competing in the 2005 DCA Mini-Corps competition in Scranton, Pennsylvania, this Labor Day weekend. If you are interested in any or all performance opportunities with North Coast Rock in 2005, please do one of the following:
