I don't think age had anything to do with it.

I don't know about that. Think about it, 94 was twelve years ago, thus everyone was 12 years younger, e.g. doing it at age 38 vs. doing it at 50! From what I understand, the Bridgemen had only started doing drill on or around April and with only one practice a month, how much can you really do and still learn/clean the music end? One other note is that many of the alumni thats marching are mainly from two groups of alumni that marched in either the late 60's early 70's and ones who marched in the 80's thus many of them don't know how to read music. thus it takes a little longer to get a song down.

You are right, I forget that when Lancers did it was a while ago. Not only that but starting in April is kind of asking a lot to put drill on too in so little practice time.
Yes I remember guys in our hornline who never read music. It's amazing what the activity did for kids who never got the chance to learn.
Now, if you don't know how to read music or have a musical degree, it's hard to cut it in a top corps.

But that doesn't take away from the natural talent that many of the kids had. If I remember correctly, Jim Brady, Bridgemen Sololist in 77 & 78, didn't know how to read music. Had learned songs by just listening. It's amazing that he went on to become a professional musician with named bands.

I know....look at Yanni. Some don't like his music, but I love it! And to think he doesn't know how to read just amazes me! :drop:
