Stick Taping

A topic important to corps, I would say. Anyone have instructions/techniques/preferances?

Matt a poster suggested this;

Wrap about two spiral wraps of 3M Electrical tape up to the point where
you grip the stick or some corps tape all the way to the butt. It simply
keeps the stick from splintering. Also the white shows up better than
wood. Its a good visual contrast against Black Drumheads.

Well I get the basics, but I'm talking like how much to overlap the tape, or to do it clean without overlapping. Also if you cross the second layer over the first to make a little weave. Just little things people prefer really.
