Tenor tuning help please!

Post by aabbo1 » Tue May 21, 2013 7:31 pm

I am a new band director at a high school and we have a set of pearl tenors (quints) that are a bit old. it consists of 6/8/10/12/14 drum sizes and i am unsure of how to use them. My student who plays them is a VERY gifted musician and is without a doubt the best percussionist I have. He never had to tune them himself because the previous director knew what pitches to tune them to, so he would tune them to what he remembered. They sound good but not quite that dci sound I love so much. We currently use REMO weatherking pinstripe 2-ply heads. ( if i remember correctly) Depending on funds we may end up getting new Dynasty drums. Either way we need to know what pitches to tune the drums to? Any suggestions would be appreciated. ( id like to get the sound as close to dci drums as possible!!!)
