I just got a new CD of the New York Staff Band of the Salvation Army with Patrick Sheridan featured on tuba. WOW!!!!! The New York Staff Band is the finest amatuer brass band in the country. Sheridan has been working with Phantom Regiment's low brass section the last couple of years. One of the tracks is an Excerpt from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake, Act I". Holy cow!!! Their version makes Phantom Regiment's seem too slow! Plus Peter Graham's "Ad Optimum" is really special too. If you have never heard a really good tuba soloist before you must listen to "Variations on a Tyrolean Song" and his other solos. You can check out samples of all the tracks at the site below, where you can also purchase it if you wish. Brass fans.... Enjoy!

Holy smoke! I had no idea a tuba could be played like that. Patrick Sheridan is amazing.

Some corps is going to snap up Ad Optimum.

Being a tuba player I just about died when I heard Sheridan play those triple-tongued passages at breakneck speeds.

I had the very same reaction to Ad Optimum when I first heard it. It could be one half of an entire show. It opens with a really nice fanfare and build to the theme with a great use of dynamic contrast. The center section slows to a ballad with euphonium and cornet solos followed by a short percussion break and then the big finish you hear in the sample.

Thanks Dave. I agree with you. Great find.

Okay, okay, you sold me. I'm buying it. :)

Or rather, trying to. Looks like he's having database problems.

Hey I think that might be illegal. You're in law enforcement and should know that. Some of your inmates might be in for doing just that. Besides, it's the Salvation Army. That's pretty low even for a former "BAC".

You might be right Lou, but I'm guessing that Mr. Sheridan is not donating his talents to play with the Salvation Army.

Being in Law enforcement, I can not be involved in having a copy of a CD that was burned. That is against the law.

I know in all my days of Fleetweood Recordings, I never made a tape for anyone. (Right).

So what is the diff. in buring a CD. We all did it when we had the records and your cassette recorder.

Please don't be so "high and mighty"!!

Lou, can you bring my copy to the BC/Syracuse game on Saturday night.

please, please, I will buy you a Dr. Pepper.

Go BC!!!!

No can do. I don't have it yet but you can still buy me a Dr. Pepper. That's not against the law.

Hey.. How about DOUG FLUTIE playing drums with the Boston College band the other night?? He was great. Now if they would only let CODI and me play tuba..

What do you have to say about Boston College Basketball now. They are now only 22-1! They have to be rated #2 in the country!!

Rumors have it Lou and I will be play our contras next week at the Seton Hall game. I spoke with AD DiPhillipo after the game and he has invited Lou and I to join the "Pep Band" next week when they play Seton Hall on Saturday at noon, and the game will be on ESPN!!! Watch for Us, there are 3 tubas, and then watch for two Contra's.

I don't want anybody taping the game because it is agains the law, just like taping a LP, or burning a CD!!

We will be selling our own DVD's look for more info on this site.
