The following caption was under a picture in today's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

"Paul Nesper of Bloomington, IL rests before his audition for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's one and only tuba chair. Ninety-two tubaists from around the world are trying for one spot withthe MSO, a top-20 U. S. orchestra. The blind audition process consists of three rounds in which contestants will be narrowed to 12 and then to three before one musician is selected. According to Rip Pretat, the MSO assistant personnel manager in charge of the audition, tuba jobs are rare; most players hold onto the jobs once they get them. In 2004, the MSO's tuba chair was vacated by Alan Baer, who took a spot with the New York Philharmonic. Baer's one-year replacement, Steven Campbell, also has moved on, to the Minnesota Orchestra."
