Double Bb and Double B

Post by soprano020304 » Wed Sep 28, 2005 7:34 pm

i was wondering what i can do to make those two notes come out of my horn. i get the double A, and the Double C, but no Double B or Bb.
ive tried a few fingerings, open, 1, 1 and 3, and nothing really. What someone told me here at school that it is kinda the breaking point, or something like that.
so if any of you have suggestions, it really would appreciate them.
thanks
Jose

Some trouble with that myself, moreso with the B than the Bb, most tuning-wise. Best thing I've found to help is work arpeggios up to it so you get the pitch locked in your head. Another thing might be to listen to music that has that specific pitch in it, just having it in your head can help you find the pitch. It did in my case anyway.

What make and model horn do you play? Both the bore diameter and consistency of manufacturing specs play a major role in centering, especially so in the altissimo register.
Also, what mouthpiece do you use?
"In my view.." is the implicit intro to all posts.

I use a Bach 37 (an old one, dated at 72'), .459 bore, with the only mods being some heavy valve caps. Mouthpieces I use are either a Monette B1-1 (not for screaming, 2nd largest they make), or a B4L (comparable to a shallow 3 cup).
